How the AI image test works
Each round mixes real photos with AI images. You'll see one image at a time and have five seconds to choose. Afterward, you'll get your score, an estimated percentile, and a closer look at any images you missed.
Why five seconds?
The time limit keeps the test focused on your first impression. It asks what you notice at a glance, as you might while scrolling through a feed.
How to spot AI-generated images
Start with details: hands, teeth, text and logos. Do the shadows and reflections make sense? Do objects blend together in the background? These can be useful clues, but real photos can look strange too. Try another round and see what you notice.
Where do the images come from?
Real photos come from Wikimedia Commons and include credits. AI images come from openly licensed research datasets and images generated for this project, with the model recorded. Each image is cropped to the same size and saved with the same JPEG settings. See the sources and licenses.
What do you store?
We store your score and average response time, plus counts of how often each image was shown and missed. You don't need an account. Your daily streak and daily results stay in your browser. Read more about privacy.
What's the average score?
The figure above shows how often players answered correctly over the past seven days. If there are no recent results, it shows the average across all tests so far.
